He wishes for the cloths of heaven

Had I the heaven's embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet;
But I being poor have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

The painting is by Hungarian artist Ladislav Mednyanszky (1852-1919) and can be found at the Slovak National Gallery.

  1. Awesome, awesome painting. I love your post about fostering creativity in your kids too. They're lucky to have you!

  2. Thank you, Linda, on both counts. Someday I should do a post on how having kids has fostered and supported my own creativity. I think even the limits caused by them in my chosen lifestyle (limits I sometimes feel a bit frustrated by) have helped me to apply intelligence and will to my pprocess, making me more productive than I would be if I had all kinds of time. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm lucky to have them too, in so many ways!
